Learn to Fly with Humber Flying Club in Our Aircraft Fleet

All the company operated aircraft are maintained to the highest standards. Because of many problems and a Court case with Air-Tech at Skegness, all 5 aircraft are now maintained by RH Aviation of Full Sutton Airfield, near York, the local CAA Approved maintenance company. All three Cessna aircraft have now been repainted in a Factory colour scheme of Royal blue and white. They look a picture when parked together as you can see by the photographs. Despite being quite busy, all the aircraft have lashings of TLC.

We currently operate two of these docile and forgiving training aircraft mainly on PPL work but also on hour building deals for students booked on our professional courses. Both aircraft are equipped with King 720 NAV/COMMs, ADF and encoding Transponders.

This aircraft is our pride and joy. We recently spent £8,000 on a complete strip, repaint and reupholster. It looks like one year old though it is 1973!! We try to keep this aircraft rather special for the professional trainee. The aircraft is fully equipped with King dual 760 NAV/COMMs, ADF, DME and encoding Transponder. We are shortly to add another 172 to our fleet - primarily for hire to our already qualified pilots.

This photograph is of our previous model simulator, used for many years with considerable success.

Now that our new Frasca has been installed, we are making this one available to our Instrument Rating candidates for free and unrestricted use after they have completed the Approved Course with us. Up to that point, the charge will be only £10 per hour for solo practice.

There is no restriction on the number of hours the student can fly. Because Simulators have a mind of their own, a short check out and demonstration is necessary before the first solo practice. The Simulator is fitted with the following equipment:-

Full IFR flight panel with dual Altimeters

HSI and Single Needle RMI

Dual King KY196 Comms

Single King KNS80 Area Nav with VOR, ILS, Glide Slope and DME

Single KN53 NAV with VOR LOC / ILS no Glide Slope

King flip frequency digital display ADF feeding RMI

Single King KT78A Transponder

Navigation Database covering facilities from Cranfield to Carlisle and Humberside to Blackpool.

The good old CAA (Campaign Against Aviation) have seen fit to make us dispose of a perfectly serviceable machine and replace it with another one, which will do exactly the same job. That is progress......... The only difference will be that the price must rise to pay for it. Hopefully our advanced students will make good solo use of the old machine over the coming years.

PA44 Simulator

Frasca 142 / PA44 Flight Simulator

This is our latest pride and joy, built during the Spring of 2005 as a Piper PA44 Seminole and now approved by the CAA as a full FNPT1 machine to give the initial 25 hours towards the JAR Private or Professional Instrument Rating. Please see our latest Price List for details of the full course.

After lengthy discussions with the UK importers of the Frasca 142 and the local CAA examiner, it was decided this machine was the most sensible path to take towards a JAR Approved Instrument Rating. We have heard stories of students doing 40 hour courses on FNPT2 machines which meant they could then complete their training with 10 hours on the aircraft. Big laugh. Most students then found they needed more time on the aircraft, thus defeating the object of keeping the cost down, hence our thinking that our methods were the most cost effective.

Equipment fitted in the new Frasca 142 are as follows:-

Full Airways IFR radio fit including

Dual NAV / Comm

DME driven from either NAV 1 or NAV 2

Transponder 4096 codes

ADF and RMI

As part of the installation process, the Simulator has been installed with a very comprehensive UK database of navigation facilities. It is possible to do either an ILS or NDB approach anywhere in the UK, the Isle of Man or Dublin. Other destinations can quickly be added if the need for expansion arises.

As part of our commitment to aviation, we are prepared to make the Simulator available to anyone for the purpose of training towards an Airline Simulator checkride, even if they have not completed their Instrument Rating here at the Humber Flying Club. Aerad instrument charts will be provided for this purpose.
